The First Step Toward the Best Mustang Restoration

Mustang restorations Done The Right way!

At Mustang Craftsmen, every exceptional Mustang restoration begins with proper preparation. That’s why our Mustang restoration shop places a strong emphasis on media blasting—removing decades of rust, paint, and oxidation to reveal clean, bare metal beneath. Unlike risky chemical dipping methods, our precision blasting ensures your classic Mustang or Shelby is restored with integrity, from frame to finish.

Our process is trusted by owners seeking the best Mustang restoration in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Kentucky, and even Ontario. Whether you’re preserving a piece of history or preparing for a full concours-level Ford restoration, it all starts here.

Tailored Media for Every Surface

Our team uses the correct blasting media for every component to ensure a safe, thorough clean without damaging the car’s structure:

  • Frame and Chassis: We use coarse media to aggressively strip rust and debris from heavy steel frame members and chassis parts. This is vital in both classic Mustang repair and full classic car restoration projects.

  • Body Panels: Soda blasting is used for large, thin panels such as hoods, fenders, and doors. Soda is non-warping and ideal for preserving the integrity of vintage sheet metal.

  • Aluminum Parts: Glass beads are used to clean aluminum surfaces gently, ensuring no pitting or structural weakening.

  • Fiberglass Panels: For Shelby models and custom builds with fiberglass parts, we use walnut shells. Their soft composition protects fragile surfaces while still cleaning effectively.

Why We Don’t Dip

As a leading Ford restoration specialist, we’ve seen the long-term damage caused by chemical dipping: corrosion trapped in seams, paint adhesion failures, and unpredictable finishes. Dipping tanks often leave residue deep in cracks and crevices—leading to issues years down the road. That’s why we use a dry, controlled method instead—trusted by those who demand only the best Ford restoration results.

Etch Priming for Superior Protection

Immediately after blasting, we apply an industrial-grade etch primer to all exposed metal. This modern primer bonds chemically with the steel, offering stronger adhesion and corrosion protection than traditional epoxy. It forms the ideal base for future bodywork and high-end paint finishes—key to long-lasting Mustang restoration quality.
